Dr. Gladys West Tribute

Honoring a Pioneer Whose Vision Helped Shape the Modern World

At the National Center for Women’s Innovations, we are proud to honor Dr. Gladys West, a trailblazing mathematician and scientist whose groundbreaking work laid the foundation for Global Positioning System (GPS) technology there by transforming how the world navigates, connects, and innovates. We had the distinct honor of celebrating Dr. West at our GALA on October 27, 2023, in Virginia, where we recognized her extraordinary legacy and lifelong commitment to scientific excellence.
The full tribute, including remarks and highlights from the evening, can be viewed in our full-length GALA video [Dr. Gladys West Tribute]. Dr. West’s contributions extend far beyond technology; they represent perseverance, brilliance, and the power of women to redefine what is possible. Her career stands as a testament to the impact of quiet leadership and uncompromising dedication. At a time when opportunities for women, particularly women of color in STEM were limited, she excelled through intellect, determination, and an unwavering belief in the value of her work.
